One introspective evening I had the epiphany that I needed to determine my “signatures”. Since then I have been sampling and buying perfume trying to finalize my “signature scent”. But, while on my honeymoon in Italy, I was able to nail down the Aperol Spritz as my signature drink…
>An Aperol Spritz is the perfect citrusy aperitif and always takes me back to our afternoons sitting in Piazza San Marco listening to the Caffe Florian band as newlyweds. So Carrie has the Cosmo, Bond has the Martini, Raj has the Grasshopper (Big Bang Theory if you’re not an addict who watches reruns over and over again like myself) and Nicole Sopp has the Aperol Spritz. Thank goodness I found my cocktail identity.
(I know the quality of these Venice pictures isn’t spectacular. One regret I have is going to Italy with only our point and shoot camera.)
One of the many things I adored about Italy was how Italians turn everything into an experience, including getting a drink. While out enjoying a glass of wine or cocktail, the first thing brought to your table are complementary snacks to nibble on including olives, cheeses, roasted nuts and different breads and crackers. Even now, a year and a half later, when my husband and I are ordering a drink at a bar or restaurant, I think to myself, “Where are my complementary snacks?” Ha. We pretty much day drank throughout our entire honeymoon and on our third glass of red wine one day we were talking about why we weren’t ever silly drunk. We concluded that it was because Italians always serve you something to eat with your drink orders (and the miles and miles of walking).
So, make an Aperol Spritz for your Cocktail Hour! Sip it and pretend you are sitting along the Grand Canal in Venice. It’s ridiculously easy to make and absolutely delicious.
Ingredients
3 parts Prosecco
2 parts Aperol
1 part Soda
Orange slice for garnish
Pour in glass over large ice cube. (We always keep our large ice cube tray filled. You want to use a large ice cube so it doesn’t dilute your drink.)
Stir and garnish with an orange slice.
Arrivederci.
