Drop Waist Gingham Dress

Our Saturdays this summer have been just the best. The day starts with Bennett’s early morning swim class then we spend the rest of the morning taking in another one of Boston’s diverse neighborhoods..

We love walking around and seeing what each neighborhood has to offer and find a local spot to eat lunch. Boston sincerely has an amazing park system so we usually find one that we had not yet explored. So far the parks we have visited have been so lush with flowers and beautifully landscaped that it is easy to forget you’re in the middle of a major city. In celebration of my birthday weekend, Brian made plans to take us to what he heard was a scenic rose garden in Fenway. I have a thing for rose gardens because they remind me of the rose garden my great-grandmother kept at her house near the Great South Bay on Long Island.

The James P. Kelleher Rose Garden is in Back Bay Fens which is part of Boston’s Emerald Necklace. The garden truly feels as though it is enchanted. When in bloom, there are an incredibly diverse number of roses. There are beautiful white marble statues and trellises, benches if you want to read a book or just bask in garden’s beauty and it smells absolutely amazing.

After touring the garden and rest of the park, we stopped at Island Creek Oyster Bar for some Island Creek Oysters (my absolute favorite). The oysters are farmed in Duxbury, MA and they’re consistently the best oysters I have ever had. Between the roses garden and lunch of oysters and craft beer, my day was what birthday dreams are made of.

The drop waist dress I am wearing is from Loft and it is honestly one of the most comfortable, effortless pieces of clothing I own. I love a good drop waist dress because I feel it elongates my body. And standing at 5″3 on a good day, I need all the elongation I can get. I was hesitant to try it on at first when I saw it on the hangar because it looked a little wide and I thought it would swallow me. However, the adorable large gingham pattern convinced me to try it on anyway. I am so glad I did because, although the dress fits loosely, it still has great shape! It is a perfect dress for a warm summer day and I think it will look great under a jean or white jean jacket and paired with flats or booties when the weather starts to get cooler. I’m wearing a regular and love that it hits just a couple of inches above my knee but it also comes in petite!

After purchasing the dress I did read some reviews that some people experienced it shrinking after washing so I’ll probably end up not risking it in the laundry and getting it dry-cleaned. You can shop this look through the links below.
