When it comes to whiskey, I can’t honestly say I ever really liked it. Sure it may have ended up in my Diet Coke while tailgating in college, and I would drink it…but I never really liked it. That is until I sipped this cocktail…
This glass of Fall wonderfulness is so beautifully balanced it will definitely convert any whiskey dodger. Rye whiskey and apple is a flavor combination made in heaven and brewing the apple cider syrup with cinnamon just shoots this drink over the top. Garnishing with a cinnamon stick and rosemary literally creates the perfect holiday fragrance as you sip your drink!
I couldn’t encourage you guys enough to give this one a try. Whiskey usually stays behind our bar unless we have company or my husband had a really long day, but I’m really glad I dusted off the bottle and took advantage of its Fall cocktail glory. I would love to know what you guys think as well!
Apple Cider Old Fashioned (makes 1 cocktail)
Ingredients:
Apple Cider Simple Syrup:
1 cup spiced apple cider
1 cup light brown sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
Cocktail:
2 oz rye whiskey or bourbon (I have this one in my bar)
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 oz spiced apple cider
1 oz apple cider simple syrup
Cinnamon stick + rosemary for garnish
Instructions:
Apple Cider Simple Syrup:
Bring apple cider and light brown sugar to a boil in a small saucepan on medium-high heat stirring constantly. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. (Simple syrup can be stored in airtight container in refrigerator up to 1 month)
Cocktail:
Add apple cider simple syrup, lemon juice and Angostura bitters to tumbler and stir to combine. Add apple cider and whiskey and stir. Add large ice cubes. (I actually prefer to use these jumbo cocktail ice trays). Garnish with cinnamon stick and rosemary sprig.
