Last Sunday Brian, Bennett and I had plans to attend Boston’s Annual Lilac Festival at Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum, part of Boston’s historic Emerald Necklace. The weather, however, had other intentions, and knowing Sunday was going to be a washout, the festival was moved to Saturday. So, although it seemed to be a little more low-key and the food trucks couldn’t be present, we still enjoyed strolling around and admiring the flowers of the Arboretum.
We didn’t get too far on our walk before spotting these beautiful Rhododendrons (or at least I believe that’s what they are since my horticultural knowledge is and always has been lacking). Their vivid pink color was so picturesque upon the landscape.
When we finally made it up to Bussey Hill we were blown away by the Arboretum’s extensive lilac collection. The sweet smell of lilacs perfumed the air, and the whole scene smelled and looked so beautiful. Bennett wasn’t as moved by the florals and preferred just to run around the gardens, but having that beautiful spot to allow him to burn off some energy was more than ok with me.
The Arnold Arboretum is one of our favorite family day spots, and we love to enjoy it year round since each season seems to display its own unique beauty on the landscape. It has so many resources if you want to learn more about nature and is an amazing (and free) activity to enjoy with your kiddos. Thanks so much for stopping by, and I’m sharing our outfit details below!
