An acai bowl is one of my and Bennett’s favorite treats on a hot day. Last summer we would frequent a local juice bar that makes AMAZING acai bowls before hitting the pool. It’s a little tradition I’ve always treasured because he always made it clear how much he loved the taste of the fruit purée, and I knew I was giving him something really good for him. Acai berries are packed with powerful antioxidants and have an extensive list of health benefits! So this year I decided to start making more acai bowls at home, and they quickly reestablished themselves as Bennett’s favorite breakfast.
There are a number ingredients that can be added to acai bowls depending on your taste and what extra nutrient boosts you’re needing. In this post I’m sharing the recipe for our my and Bennett’s classic acai bowl that takes few ingredients and little time to make (which is so necessary when a toddler is pulling on your skirt until that breakfast is served)! Do any of you have an acai bowl recipe you love?
Our Favorite Classic Acai Bowl (recipe makes one serving)
Ingredients:
Purée-
1 pack frozen pure acai berry (I like the Sambazon brand)
1/3 cup almond milk (you can substitute coconut milk if there’s an allergy)
Half a frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
Toppings-
Blueberries
Sliced strawberries
Sliced banana
Your favorite granola
Instructions:
1. Place acai pack under running water for about 10 seconds (until you can break it apart with your hands).
2. Place acai, half of the almond milk, frozen banana, frozen strawberries and frozen blueberries into blender and blend on low until there are no more fruit chunks.
3. Add the remaining almond milk and blend for about 5 more seconds.
4. Pour acai purée into bowl and add your toppings!
5. Enjoy your delicious, healthy treat!
