After wandering many New England towns we have come to greatly appreciate the unique, inimitable character of each one. We fell in love with Newburyport for its beautiful waterfront park and the Federal period architecture of its historic district. We also frequent Salem for its vibrant restaurant scene and since we always seem to be educated on new historical facts when walking around. But then there’s Rockport. Rockport, MA is a town that makes you feel like you’re in the time of a Melville novel. It is a breathtaking seaside town on the tip of Cape Ann overflowing with coastal New England charm. There are restaurants with patios overlooking the harbor to enjoy a lobster roll and shops filled with beautiful crafts made by local artisans. The entire historic downtown surrounds the serene harbor offering striking views everywhere you turn.
We started our day just taking in the views of the harbor. Bennett wanted to throw rocks in the water the entire time we were there (he did take a momentary break for ice cream). My fearless boy loves the water so much we had to keep a good hold of him to make sure he didn’t cannonball into the water.
This is an image of the iconic Motif No. 1, Rockport’s frequently photographed fishing shack that has inspired countless works of art. It was difficult to capture all of the images I wanted with both kiddos in tow so I plan to go back and shoot some more pictures on my own.
This striped midi skirt from J.CREW has been a favorite of mine for a few years. I adore the nautical stripes, and the length is perfect for comfortable outdoor exploring on a Spring and Summer day. I chose to wear the skirt with a crisp white button-down but I also love to pair it with colorful light sweaters and tanks. It also looks great with a light wash denim jacket. You can see how I styled the skirt with a bright lemon print blouse in this post!
Bennett’s hair looks especially adorable when it absorbs salty air. I find myself looking at pictures of him recently in disbelief of how big he’s getting.
This image was taken right after Austyn walked up to a complete stranger and tried to steal her ice cream cone.
