Last Saturday morning we let the kids wake up on their own, fed them breakfast then headed up the north shore to Marblehead with our tripod in an effort to get some family photos along the harbor. When we got up there we were greeted by a fog that blanketed Marblehead Harbor and the ocean beyond in a cloud so thick that the boats were just barely visible. What is normally a waterway full of activity was hauntingly quiet that morning, and the haze made the scarce ordinarily powerful fishing vessel look helpless out there in the gray, monochrome scene. While the background was not exactly what I had in mind for our pictures, the setting was hauntingly beautiful, and Bennett and Austyn had fun playing along the seaside in the mist.
After letting Bennett have his time throwing stones into the water (one of his favorite pastimes), we headed to the historic downtown district popping into the charming boutiques along Washington Street and reading the plaques on the historic homes and structures that even predated the Revolution.
I’m most comfortable in dresses and skirts during the Summer especially if our plans include a lot of walking. I bought my striped skirt for a job interview for which I paired it with a white button-down, but I also love it styled more casually with a crisp white tee like for our day in Marblehead. It is the perfect length, falling just below my calves, and I love the tie belt. I can always count on stripes to remain a classic from year to year, and what I especially appreciate about this versatile skirt is that it’s UNDER $35!
I also have to mention something about my shoes since this was my first time wearing them. I bought them earlier in the Summer in anticipation of starting my new position in the Fall. As a clinician I am pretty much on my feet all day; so finding a pair of shoes that are stylish, clinically appropriate and comfortable is a HUGE win for me. I took these black leather pretties on a test drive this weekend, and they stood the test of comfort even against all our miles of walking. They’re also a great buy at UNDER $70!
