Apple Picking– Brian and I made a tradition of going apple picking together even before Bennett was born. Last year Bennett just sat under the shade of the trees and smiled as we picked, but this year he had a blast placing apples in (and out of) the basket. This year we went to Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stowe, MA, and it was wonderful, but last year we went to Tougas Family Farm in Northborough, MA, and I think I prefer it for its amazing play area for kids. There is nothing I don’t love about the entire apple picking expedition from beginning to end. I love enjoying an (almost) autumn day outdoors with my family. I also get so excited to bring home freshly picked apples to use in fun fall recipes. We never leave an apple orchard without a couple gallons of fresh apple cider and apple cider donuts in hand. It is a day I always look forward to as a welcome to fall.
College Football Saturdays– Even though I no longer live in the South, my passion for UGA football is just as strong as the day I crossed the Mason-Dixon line. Since Brian is a Notre Dame fan, it’s usually either a long day of football in our household or a lot of switching back and forth between games. It’s also always a race of who can dress Bennett first on Saturday mornings to properly represent our own team! We love to spend the day trying out new fall beers and a new chili recipe in the crockpot.
A Fall Picnic– Fall is by far my favorite season to enjoy a picnic. I love finding a picturesque spot under colorful foliage and enjoying some provisions laid out on a plaid blanket. I love packing cheese, apples and caramel dip, a good red wine and of course some snacks for Bennett.
Sunflower Fields– Sunflower fields bloom in late summer and early fall in New England. If you guys caught this post, you saw the beautiful sunflower fields of Colby Farm in Newbury, MA. I love the opportunity to get some adorable and memorable family photos then hitting the farm stand to pick up some farm fresh goods for dinner on the way out.
Outdoor Markets– Going to outdoor flea and farmer’s markets is one of my favorite fall activities. Here in Boston we are fortunate to have the SOWA Market in the South End. On rare Sundays I have off with the family we like to head to SOWA after church, rummage through the farmers’ and vintage markets and grab a diverse outdoor lunch from the local food trucks on site!
What are your favorite family fall activities?! I would love to know! I hope you have a wonderful day, and thank you so much for stopping by!
