Our favorite Boston neighborhood is, hands down, the North End. I have dreams of walking down Hanover Street and being flooded by smells of pizza and pasta along with fresh baked goods from the vast number of bustling bakeries. Italian immigrants settled in the North End area in the 1800’s and the neighborhood remains rich in Italian culture. Keep walking north or east and you’ll eventually have to turn around unless you want to swim, but we prefer sitting and watching the boats come in and out of the harbor.
We usually start a day in Boston’s Little Italy strolling along the Harbor Walk, coffees in hand. I have a fascination with anything nautical and could literally stare at boats all day. There is something so romantic about the sound of boats slowly swaying with the waves. Then we usually head back southwest so we can walk Hanover Street from its beginning.
From there we usually weave within the smaller streets and alley ways visiting historical sites such as the Paul Revere house and mall and the Old North Church. The Old North Church is the oldest church still standing in Boston. In 1775, Paul Revere devised a plan to warn militia of advancing British soldiers whereby lanterns hung from the Old North Church would signal patriots stationed at Charlestown. After two of Paul Revere’s associates climbed the church steeple to signal that the British were advancing by boat (One if by land, Two if by sea), riders at Charlestown ensured that militia at Lexington and Concord were warned and prepared for the battle that would ignite the Revolutionary War.
Since I knew we would be walking around the majority of the day, I definitely wanted to keep my outfit casual. By this time in the summer I only invest in pieces that I would be able to wear into Fall. So, I can’t wait to pair this peplum top with a blazer and skinny jeans or black pants. I love peplum tops and find them so flattering as the volume at the bottom gives the illusion of a slimmer waist above, and I can use anything that creates the illusion of an hourglass shape.
I also love the color of this top. It is the most subtle shade of amethyst.
All in all, I couldn’t have wished for a better Saturday with my little family. A visit to the North End is a sound bet that your day is going to be amazing. The combination of delicious authentic Italian food, being on the water and walking amidst sites so important in American history is my idea of a perfect day.
I hope you all have a beautiful week! You can find the details of this look below:
