On our way down to the Hamptons, we board the Cross Sound Ferry in New London, CT and travel to Orient Point, NY. From Orient Point you can choose to take two more brief ferries to and from Shelter Island to cross the South Fork of Long Island, but I prefer to drive around the forks so I can stop at one of my favorite places in the world: Lavender by the Bay..
Lavender by the Bay is an actual Heaven on Earth. There are fields and fields of the most beautiful purple hue, and I can’t put into words how amazing it smells. On this trip my husband mentioned that he felt as though he was in the movie “What Dreams May Come.”
I had been eyeing this Banana Republic dress for a while, and as soon as it went on sale it had to be mine. I love the ruffle details and am always appreciative of a dress with pockets! It made me feel so ladylike, and I just wanted to twirl around the sea of lavender.
Lavender by the Bay also has the most amazing gift shop where I always pick up some fresh lavender as a hostess gift. I also bought some dried lavender I can use for baking. The North Fork of Long Island is filled with excellent wineries and farm land misted by the salt air of the Bays and Sound. I hope you are able to find some time to go when the lavender is blooming and to enjoy this beautiful place with your family.
